유도에 관심을 갖고 유도를 배우고자 저희 체육관에 입관하시는 분들께 진심으로 감사와 환영의 말씀을 드립니다. 한국유도는 1909년 황성 기독교 청년회에서 '독립 운동에 절대 필요한 장정 100명을 육성하자' 라는 계기로 시작됐습니다. 유도는 '유능제강'으로 부드러움이 능히 강함을 제압한다는 뜻으로 작은 사람이 큰사람을 메칠 수있고 힘이 약한 사람이 힘이 강한 사람을 극복할수있는 매력이 있습니다.
수련을 하시다 보면 아시게 되지만, 유도는 절대로 수월한 운동이 아닙니다. 상대방에게 기술을 걸고 메치기 위해서는 기본적으로 갖추어야 할 체력적인 조건을 필요로 하며 또한 기술을 하나씩 배우고 실전에서 쓸 수 있도록 하기 위해서는 나름대로 땀을 흘리는 노력의 시간도 필요하기 때문입니다. 한판으로 승부가 좌우되고, 땀을 흘리는 노력이 필요하고, 인생과 비슷한 운동이군요.
남녀노소 할것없이 누구나 배울수 있는 운동이므로 땀을 흘리는 순간을 두려워 하지 말고 편안한 마음으로 시작하시기 바랍니다. 시작이 반이라는 속담이 있는 것처럼 시작할 때에는 전체의 절반을 이루어 놓은 거나 마찬가지입니다. 성심성의껏 지도해 드릴 것을 약속드립니다.

Judo is an Olympic sport. It was founded in 1882 by Professor Jigoro Kano, the Minister of Education in Japan. Dr. Kano envisioned it as a way of becoming physically and mentally fit through disciplined training. It is designed so that it can be practiced by all ages, both male and female. Judo, which means 'Gentle Way', does not involve any kicking or striking techniques. It is an excellent activity to increase physical fitness, and self-esteem.
Judo students go on to achieve success in every field. The life lessons learned at dojo carry to their success. At Irvine Judo Club, we believe everyone will become elite at whatever they choose to do in life.
